Project Title: Horns Rev-2 location: Esbjerg, Denmark startup date: 2009 size: 210 MW project type: Wind descriptions: The anticipated installed capacity of approximately 200 MW is expected to have an annual production of more than 800 GWh, which corresponds to the electricity consumed by approximately 200,000 Danish homes. This project will use 91 wind turbines each will supply 2.3 MW. This wind farm is 30km off the west coast of Jutland in the North Sea in water depths of 9-17m. Construction began in May 2008 and the first turbine was installed on March 19, 2009. On September 17, 2009, the project was inaugurated by Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and became the largest offshore wind park in the world. With average wind speeds just below 10m/s, annual output is expected to be about 800 GWh. Horns Rev-2 is the first offshore wind farm to be manned year-round by up to 24 workers staging from an offshore maintenance and transformer platform dubbed Poseidon.
