Project Title: Coos Bay OPT Wave Park location: Coos Bay, 2.7 miles off coast of Oregon, west of Coos Bay & North Bend, OR startup date: size: 100 MW project type: Wave Power descriptions: April 2010: The planned size is up to 100 MW. It will consist of up to 200 PowerBuoys®, 20 undersea substations, and a submarine cable to deliver the power generating. Each PB500 PowerBuoy® has a maximum sustained generating capacity of 500 kiloWatts. A Notice of Intent & Preliminary Application Document Submitted. OPT signed an MOU with the State of Oregon to set forth an approach for developing wave power projects within the coastal waters of Oregon and this project falls into that understanding. Under a preliminary permit, which OPT received form the FERC, the company is studying the feasibility of building this project. Contractors: Oregon Wave Energy Partners I, LLC Owner
Project Title: Orkney Islands Wave Project location: Orkney Islands, Scotland startup date: 2008 size: 3 MW project type: Wave Power descriptions: June 2010: Voith Hydro and RWE Innogy will jointly install a one-megawatt marine tidal current turbine through the joint venture company Voith Hydro Ocean Current Technologies. It is due to start its two-year trial operation in the European Marine Energy Center in the Orkney Island waters in 2011. The British government provided GBP 1.7 million for the project. December 2009: Construction of the first PB150 PowerBuoy, earmarked for the European Marine Energy Center, is at an advanced stage and remains on track for deployment at this site by the middle of the calendar year 2010. September 2009: During the first quarter of 2009, OPT made significant progress on the development of its first 150kW PowerBuoy that is earmarked to deploy at this location. Two major manufacturing milestones were achieved in the development of the PB150 PowerBuoy; the award of the steel fabrication contract for the PowerBuoy structre, and the completion of the mechanical elements of the power take-off system at the Company's manufacturing center. Construction of the PB150 has now commenced and testing is underway on the power conversion and power take-off sub-assemblies. The PowerBuoy is expected to be deployed in the first half of 2010. December 2007: Grants worth more than $25 million have been awarded for marine energy projects in Scottish waters where the world's largest commercial wave power farm is being developed. Project Title: Bay of Fundy Tidal Project location: Nova Scotia, Canada startup date: 2009 size: 1.2 MW project type: Tidal Power descriptions: November 2009: OpenHydro successfully deployed the first commercial scale in-stream tidal turbine and is now operational. Bay of Fundy has one of the greatest tidal resources in the world.
