100,000 Companies Supply or Specify Flow and Treatment Products and Services

More than 100,000 companies supply or specify products and services to control the flow or treat air, gas, water and liquids.  Twenty thousand of these companies are identified along with contacts in the McIlvaine OEM Networking Directory.  (www.mcilvainecompany.com)

These companies are generating revenues of more than $300 billion.  However, no one company dominates the market. The top thirty companies account for only 15 percent of global sales.

The directory includes contacts at the architect/engineer and consulting companies.  Companies such as Black & Veatch and URS have historically been more influential in the U.S. market than in other countries. With aggressive expansion of services, their influence is becoming more widespread.   Nevertheless, in many countries the design decisions are made by large engineering/construction companies such as Doosan who purchase the products as part of turn-key systems which they provide.

Purchased as part of EPC activity

Doosan recently purchased assets of AEE Lentjes GMBH and increased its air pollution control scope. It is the largest supplier of desalination plants in the world. It is a major supplier of boilers and related systems for the power industry.

The purchaser is challenged by two complexities:

1.      Many companies have specialized subsidiaries who supply one of the products but not others.

2.      Translation of company and subsidiary names between picture and letter based languages is inexact

To address the first problem, McIlvaine has provided lists of products sold by each subsidiary.  This is shown at:

· View and Correct Your Product Listings

(This example only shows products but not the full display with contact names and e-mails.)

To address the language inconsistencies, McIlvaine has assigned a financial entity number to each company and the typical spelling in both English and Chinese.

The directory covers the complete supply chain.  At the top are the consulting companies who specify the range of equipment and systems.  At the next level are the equipment procurement contractors (EPC).  At the third level are the systems suppliers.  Level 4 is the major product suppliers e.g. fabric filter.  Level 5 would be the components for the product e.g. filter bag suppliers.  Level 6 are the components for level 5 e.g. filter media, adhesives. Level 6 includes the basic materials suppliers e.g. resins, stainless steel.

Pump Market to Generate Revenues of $40 Billion In 2014

Pumps suppliers around the world will enjoy revenues of just under $40 billion in 2014. This is the latest finding in Pumps World Market published by the McIlvaine Company. www.mcilvainecompany.com

East Asia will be the leader with forecasted purchases of $13.8 billion.  NAFTA will surpass Western Europe due to the oil and gas activity in the U.S. and the negative manufacturing climate in Europe. The high price of energy is slowing growth of manufacturing in Western Europe. Eastern Europe is faring somewhat better, but is still obligated by EU policies.

South America will exceed West Asia in 2014 due to the mining and energy projects underway.   Mines require water for processing and cooling.  Long pipelines also require multiple pumping stations.   Oil and gas exploration requires pumps for movement of the product as well as for produced water, chemical additives and lubrication fluids.

The Middle East remains a major market. However, the unconventional oil and gas processing in the U.S. and subsea processing in a number of areas have two negative impacts on the Middle East market share.  Total production is negatively affected in the Middle East. Also the comparative investment in pumps for conventional extraction is much less than unconventional extraction and processing.

The large size of the Asian market is due to the continuing investment in infrastructure.  The pump requirements for municipal drinking and wastewater treatment are substantial.  The preference for coal-fired power to supply additional generation is also a factor.  Huge water requirements are necessary for power plant cooling.  The extraction of water for Asian coal-fired power will reach 1.5 million mgd (millions of gallons per day) by 2020.   By comparison, U.S. power plants extract 300,000 mgd.  U.S. drinking water plants extract only 40,000 mgd.  However, the world’s power plants return all but 45,000 mgd to the rivers and streams, whereas, all the drinking water is consumed.
