Pressure Switches

The U.S. market for pressure switches was $359 Million in 2001 according to Tim Shea of VDC. This is consumption and not production. So the data you will generate will be by the end market and not production. Since Texas Instruments, Johnson Controls, Invensys, Honeywell and ITT are major suppliers it is reasonable that production in the U.S. was closer to $500 million. Consumption in developing countries is higher than production thus absorbing the $141 million difference in the U.S.

The executive white paper gives 2001 rankings by application. We have used this and made some assumptions to drill down to the 2001 dollar numbers by industry or application needed to insert into the global forecasts.

2001 U.S. Market for Pressure Switches

The following chart gives the approximate dollar value by application in the U.S. One column gives the best industry chart to use in obtaining the global forecasts. Another column provides a better McIlvaine chart to use. For example, in the first line it is possible to use the GDP chart to segment the HVAC market by country. But the McIlvaine Air Filter distribution is better.

The McIlvaine Air Filter forecasts divide HVAC into commercial, residential, industrial etc. Forced air heating is much more prevalent in the U.S. than in most other countries. So using the McIlvaine air filter data, one obtains more accurate data and also further segmentation. However, this is an additional cost. So the GDP chart may suffice.
