TODD MELICK – PROMECON USA
BIO: Todd is Vice President of PROMECON USA, Inc. a wholly-owned subsidiary of PROMECON, GmbH with offices in Orrville, Ohio. PROMECON manufacturers a number of process flow measurement instruments which can be applied to optimize a wide variety of industrial processes. Before joining PROMECON, Todd worked for Babcock & Wilcox and General Electric. His duties were focused on fossil fuel combustion for 23 years. Todd received his BSME degree from Akron University.
ABSTRACT: I will discuss our carbon in ash monitoring system for 5 minutes and use the remaining time on our air and flue gas flow measurement for dusty applications. We have a new update so we can measure with clean air while starting up a boiler or coal mill. I will also discuss the application of balancing flue gas flow into various scrubber modules on a recent project.
SCOTT AFFELT – ZOLO TECHNOLOGIES

BIO: Scott Affelt is VP of Zolo Technologies. Prior to joining Zolo, Mr. Affelt was President of Doosan Babcock North America and has over 25 years in the energy industry. Mr. Affelt holds a BS from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
ABSTRACT: Zolo Technologies offers a laser-based sensor that can measure temperature, O2, CO and H2O profiles directly in the furnace and in real-time. This key combustion constituent information can be used to balance combustion profiles to reduce emissions, reduce slagging or improve efficiency. The information can also be integrated into a closed-loop combustion optimizer to maintain optimum combustion performance over a range of operating conditions and fuels.
