Longer term we believe that all coal-fired plants will install scrubbers. Furthermore, all plants will need to achieve 90 percent mercury removal. Wet scrubbed plants will not use activated carbon.

Given these assumptions the potential activated carbon market is the combination of the unscrubbed and non-wet scrubbed plants.

Considerable time has been spent analyzing the timing of scrubber installations and the percentage which will be wet. The graph above shows that the unscrubbed capacity will steadily shrink between now and 2020, when only a few plants will be unscrubbed.
