CITGO to Install Controls at Six Refineries
In a settlement with the federal government, CITGO Petroleum Corp. has agreed to install emission controls at six refineries in five states, at an expected cost of about $323 million. The agreement settles EPA's charges that the company violated the New Source Review provisions of the Clean Air Act; CITGO has not admitted any violations, but said that it settled the case in order to move forward with its environmental projects. The company plans to install state-of-the-art equipment to reduce sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions at refineries in Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey and Texas.
