LIQUID FILTRATION UPDATE

JULY 2005

 

WATER & WASTEWATER

Black & Veatch Inc. (Kansas City, MO) has received a contract to provide consulting and construction supervision services in connection with the construction of two 200,000-ton-per-day wastewater treatment plants serving Guangzhou City in South China.

 

MINING

Reversing a five-year period of declining spending, the worldwide budget for nonferrous, nonfuel mineral exploration is expected to increase by 58 percent in 2004 from 2003, according to Metals Economics Group (MEG) of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

 

The top three geographic areas for exploration in 2004, in decreasing budget order, were Latin America ($774 million); Canada ($696 million) and Africa ($572 million), followed by Australia ($522 million), the United States ($284 million, compared with $153 million in 2003), the Pacific Region ($156 million) and the rest of the world ($547 million).

 

PULP MLLS

Groupe Laperrière & Verreault Inc. announced that its Process Group (Dorr-Oliver Eimco) was recently awarded contracts totaling more than $10 million to supply water and wastewater treatment systems for two of CMPC’s pulp mills in Chile. First, GL&V will provide a complete water and effluent treatment system using Dorr-Oliver Eimco’s Reactor-Clarifier and OTG filtration technology for a complete new pulping line at CMPC’s Santa Fe mill which specializes in the production of bleached eucalyptus Kraft pulp.

 

COMPANY NEWS

International Technology Group Andritz AG has signed an agreement to purchase 100% of Lenser Filtration GmbH + Co. KG, Germany. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The acquisition is subject to the approval by antitrust authorities, and is planned to become effective within the next few weeks.

 

In 2004, Andritz acquired the filtration technology from Netzsch and from Rittershaus and Blecher, making Andritz one of the leading suppliers of filter presses. The acquisition of Lenser enables Andritz to offer complete solutions for dewatering according to customer requirements.
