Power-Gen Europe and Achema Stand Pictures and Interviews
McIlvaine will be conducting interviews and taking pictures of exhibitors at their stands at both Power-Gen Europe and Achema later this month. The pictures are part of our Global Networking. All our publications are over the Internet, so it is difficult to identify with the individuals who are being quoted or in the case of our webinars, who are participating. So pictures of the people with their products are one way of overcoming this obstacle.
Here is a recent sample from the Power-Gen show in Las Vegas:

We will be asking input of the exhibitors in "Decisive Classification" of their products. We believe that a Decisive Classification system in Chinese, English and other languages will level the international playing field.
We have developed a system to identify pump and valve products by application. (There is a big difference between shale oil and oil shale.) We need to standardize on product terms. The associations have some good classifications, but they are not based on decision needs but on scientific definitions. So we need to standardize first in English and then in other languages.
We would like to make sure we properly classify your products and also provide the best Chinese equivalent for your corporate identity and each relevant subsidiary. We have created a unique numbering system:

Municipal Wastewater Plants Will Invest $26 Billion
In Flow Control and Treatment This Year
The investment in flow control and treatment at municipal sewage treatment plants around the world will be in excess of $26 billion in 2012. This is the latest forecast in an aggregation of McIlvaine water-related market research reports.

Whereas, the investment growth in sewage treatment is under five percent in the U.S. and Europe, it is expanding at a rapid rate in the developing countries. The market is growing most rapidly in Asia, but some Latin American countries are investing heavily.
Wastewater treatment levels in Mexico will reach 69.4 percent by 2017. Wastewater treatment levels currently stand at 46.5 percent nationwide, but fifty-five wastewater treatment plants are currently under construction which will increase national treatment capacity by 23 percent. The majority of the plants under construction are small or medium-sized, but also include large projects such as the 4.3 million m3/day (1,140 MGD) Atotonilco plant in Hidalgo state and the 8,500 liter/second (194 MGD) Agua Prieta plant in Jalisco state.
Investments in monitoring equipment and software are increasing at double-digit rates in many of the developing countries. In India, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) announced plans to bring all eleven of its sewage treatment plants into a central Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
The combined capacity of the eleven WWTPs is 297 million liters/day (78.5 MGD). Six newly-built WWTPs have local SCADA systems which will be tied into the central system. Five older WWTPs will have new SCADA systems installed with connections to the central system. The SCADA system will enable PCMC to monitor the water levels, the amount of treated sewage, the quality of treatment, dissolved oxygen level, chemical oxygen demand and other aspects of STPs.
Pumps are the leading equipment category. Over $8 billion will be invested in pumps bringing the sewage to the plants and then moving it from one treatment process to another. The next biggest category is sedimentation and centrifugation. This includes the clarifiers, centrifuges, thickeners, dissolved air flotation systems and other devices using gravity separation.

Liquid Macrofiltration Market to Exceed $6.6 Billion in 2013
The market for sand filters, belt presses, bag filters and other macrofiltration equipment separating particles from water and liquids will exceed $6.6 billion in 2013. This is the latest finding in the McIlvaine online Liquid Filtration and Media World Market. (

The largest purchasing segment will be municipal water treatment plants. Granular media filters are routinely utilized prior to chemical treatment. Alum sludges are dewatered using belt filter presses or recessed chamber filter presses. The mining industry uses drum filters for product separation. The brewing and pharmaceutical industries use leaf filters for product purification.
The power industry uses gravity media belt filters to separate gypsum from recycled scrubber liquor. The chemical industry uses bag filters and filter presses for product separation.
One of the biggest new markets is ballast water treatment. A 50 micron filter will be required on most of the 70,000 ships which will be subject to new international maritime rules. Another growing market will be in treating the fracturing flow-back water associated with shale gas extraction.
East Asia will be the largest regional market. Belt filter presses will be purchased to dewater sludge at many sewage treatment plants. The pulp and paper industry in the region will also be a major purchaser of macrofiltration equipment.
There are many suppliers of granular media filters and belt filter presses. On the other hand, there are only a handful of suppliers for the big vacuum belt filters used in the power industry. The amount of equipment now produced in Asia is larger than in any other region. This is in part due to the activity of Asian suppliers but also to the decision to locate regional manufacturing in Asia by international suppliers such as Andritz.
