Subject  Valve Selection For Power Plant FGD And Other Air Quality Systems Is The Hot Topic For March 22nd

Valve companies will have the chance to present information to power plant operators on March 22nd at 9:00 A.M. Central daylight time as part of the “Hot Topic Hour” Webinar series hosted by the McIlvaine Company.  Here are some of the subjects which will be discussed.

Should you use a knife gate or a butterfly valve for FGD recycle slurry service?  What are the costs and operational problems with each?  What valve types should be used in the grinding system including the limestone slurry?  Where should knife gate valves be used vs. diaphragm?

What other special valve designs should be considered for FGD wastewater including gypsum dewatering, treatment of the gypsum wash water, and final treatment?

Should globe valves be used to control the service water, mist eliminator wash, and miscellaneous water flows? Could globe-type valves with favorably formed body passages simulating plug valves be used in slurry control?

Are butterfly valves the best choice for on/off control valves for slurry service lines and in recirculation slurry pump discharge piping?

How do you deal with corrosion?  Do the valves for the wet precipitators have to be able to withstand high chloride levels?  Do the new zero discharge designs pose special problems?

What valves are best for fabric filter pulse jet service?  What pressures are required?  Should special valves replace rotary valves for dust collector ash conveying?  What are the maintenance and operational considerations?

You have the opportunity to participate and even present data.  More information on the “Hot Topic Hours” is shown at:  http://www.mcilvainecompany.com/brochures/FGDnetoppbroch/Default1.htm .
