Subject: Ultrapure Water market on the upswing

The new chip plants with larger wafers and finer line sizes need the most ultrapure water. There are 25 wafer fabs online that can process wafers of 300-mm diameter, and when ramped to full production, they would have an aggregate manufacturing capacity of 400,000 wafer starts per month.  But this is just the beginning.  This is the wave of the future and lots of suppliers will be forced to retire their existing 200-mm facilities and build new plants.  This will lead to an acceleration of expenditures for ultrapure water systems.

Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana are just a few of the states where new coal-fired plants are under design and construction.  McIlvaine is tracking over 70 new coal-fired boiler projects in the U.S. alone.  China is planning more than 30 big 1000 MW plants per year.  These coal-fired plants will require four times as much ultrapure water as a gas turbine plant of the same output.  So, this is good news for UPW suppliers.
