Proper Steam Bypass System Design Avoids Steam Turbine Overheating

The steam bypass system is generally used during the following modes of operation: start-up and shutdown, steam turbine trip, steam turbine no-load or low-load operation, and simple-cycle operation. On start-up, the isolation of the CTG/HRSG from the STG allows the CTG to be placed on load without delay and well before the heat-up and roll-off of the STG. In addition, a faster start-up of the STG is possible since the bypass system provides the capability of close temperature matching between the steam inlet temperature and the steam turbine metal temperature.

Valvtechnologies Turbine Bypass System

The steam turbine bypass system will allow the operator to keep the gas turbine and the heat recovery system generator (HRSG) on-line in the event of a steam turbine trip or to facilitate faster start-ups of the CT and HRSG.

5-year bag life for Dry scrubber with PPS/P84 bags.

A Czech coal burning power plant is provided with a fluidised bed boiler, a dry scrubber with calcium hydroxide as a reagent and a bag house. The baghouse is a pulse jet design with 550,000 aM3/hr capacity. The initial set of filter bags was based on a 100 % PPS material. The bags failed on high-pressure drop caused by filter material blinding. It was decided to replace these bags with bags based on a PPS/P84 blended fibres in order to improve the filtration efficiency and prevent the dust penetration into the cross section of the material. F i g u r e 9 shows the condition of the needle felt before the replacement was required and the condition of the new PPS/P84 filter media with a well-defined dust cake and no dust penetration. This bag house is achieving more than five years of bag life operation.

Procedair dry scrubber supplied for a 100 tpd waste to energy plant in Canada

An overview of the Air Pollution Control system at Canada's most recently retrofitted Energy-from-Waste facility is presented. The plant burns 100 tons per day of municipal solid waste in three modular incinerators, which are ducted to a common system for steam generation, heat recovery, and APC. Procedair Industries Inc. provided an All-Dry Scrubbing System for the APC, consisting of a custom-designed venturi reactor, fabric filter, and reagent handling system. The reagent is hydrated lime and the filter bags are woven fiberglass with a Teflon '8' finish. The system is designed for 35, 100 Nm3 /hr of flue gas at 138 to 184'F, and high concentrations of particulates and acid gases. Performance objectives included up to 95% removal efficiency in particulates, doixions/furans, and HCI concentration, and 80% reduction in S02' The system has been operating successfully since early 1997, and recent stack testing has shown that key performance targets are being easily met.

At Turow, Poland Derakane replaces borosilicate glass

The FGD (Flue gas desulfurization) unit operates at a temperature of 160 F (70C) under normal conditions. However, during the construction period, two of the four units were not operative and ran in the bypass mode. During the by-pass operation one of the units ran for two years at temperatures up to 320F (160 C). The previous chimney liners were constructed of borosilicate blocks which needed to be replaced due to the wet circumstances and the huge swings in temperature 70 – 320 F (20 – 160 C). Each of the four units consisted of a chimney liner 17 feet (5.3 m) in diameter and 395 feet (120 m) tall. In addition, there was a total of 1100 feet (330 m) of ductwork with the same diameter. FRP fabricated with Derakane 470HT was selected for this project due to its chemical resistance to the wet flue gas and its ability to manage the huge swings in temperature up to and beyond 320F (160 C).
