Nuclear Power Applications from Industeel

Nuclear reactors, nuclear waste transport and storage casks all require high-purity nuclear-grade steels, often in great thicknesses. And for the steam turbines used to generate electricity from nuclear power, you need steels that retain their properties at high temperatures and over long periods of time. In addition to steels for steam boilers and tubes, Industeel has extensive experience in nuclear-grade products and offers a wide range of sizes suited to nuclear power stations, primary looks as well as for both steel plate and formed parts that offer sufficient reliability to replace forged solutions. Our factories have been approved by all major nuclear certification organizations (ASME III, RCCM) and we produce all the steel grades required for nuclear applications. In addition, we have the necessary know-how to develop new and better steel solutions for both existing and future nuclear technologies.

Hydroelectric Power Plant Steels Supplied by Industeel

Hydroelectric power plants require steel with exceptional mechanical properties including weldability and reliability in forming. Industeel offers high-strength steel solutions with enhanced weldability in a wide range of formats for applications ranging from penstocks to heavy-duty plates used to build massive structural parts, lean duplex or weldable martensitic (13 4 Mo or PH grades ) combining strength and useful resistance to corrosion , cavitation and wear.

Industeel Soleil C5 is Ideal for Shafts and Impellors for Hydropower Turbines

Soleil C5 grade is specially designed for applications requiring high strength, high toughness and medium corrosion resistance properties. The chromium, nickel and molybdenum additions make the alloy resistant to corrosion in fresh water. Typical applications are hydroelectric turbines and systems (blades, runners, gates, rings, shield plates,…), hydropter wings to fight cavitation by high speed water.

Corrosion of Alloy 2205 in Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization Systems, Presented by Rob Grabarczyk, We Energies, at Electric Utility Chemistry Workshop, June 7-9, 2011, Champaign, Illinois

Corrosion of Alloy 2205 in Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization Systems Rob Grabarczyk, We Energies Significant pitting was discovered in two newly commissioned wet flue gas desulfurization absorber vessels. The vessels are constructed of solid duplex alloy 2205 with both vessels accumulating less than six months of operation when the pitting was discovered. This presentation provides a description of the pitting and We Energies efforts to determine the cause and potential solutions to ensure reliable operation of the system.

Recent Experience with Stainless Steels in FGD Air Pollution Control Service by Deba Maitra, Special Metals - Hot Topic Hour January 6, 2011.

Dr. Deba Maitra, Research & Technology at Special Metals Corporation, related the results of laboratory and field testing (at a power plant in Indiana which is experiencing corrosion of 2205) which showed that while the duplex steel was severely attacked by the environment, super-austenitic stainless steel and nickel-base alloy specimens were much more resistant. The super-austenitic stainless is about half the price of C 276 and has equivalent corrosion resistance. It is being used in a new scrubber system being built in North Dakota.
