IAC Capabilities including DSI

This analysis reviews the various different sorbents and their effectivenesss on specific pollutants such as SO2, HCl, and mercury. IAC has a testing fleet to determine the correct sorbent and amount which will be needed with the DSI approach as opposed to more capital intensive options. With DSI the reagent cost is a more significant percentage of the total, so precisely predicting the reagent needs is very valuable. Various construction capabilities of large filters and transload systems are also covered.

IAC rebuild of RA filter system for coal fired boiler

IAC evaluated a baghouse rebuild project to review a 16-module reverse air structural baghouse. The original scope of the inspection was to evaluate the baghouse for needed repairs due to concerns over corrosion that had taken place over the years, as well as overall baghouse performance. This baghouse collects fly ash off of the plant's coal-fired boilers, which are used to generate steam for the needs of the plant. A detailed inspection report was generated and sent to the customer. The report included a list of recommendations for a scope of repair work. A substantial portion of these recommendations included the replacement of numerous dampers on the baghouse, as well as the reverse air ductwork. Follow-up meetings were held at the plant to discuss various option for upgrading the baghouse equipment or possible converting it to a pulse-jet. The customer reviewed our recommendations and focused on the damper and duct repair as items to get approved for a baghouse rebuild project. Several months of internal discussions within the plant took place to further define the project. IAC provided budgetary equipment and labor pricing. IAC went through the documentation process with the customer to become an official “approved contractor”. The insurance and safety requirements were substantial. IAC was certified as an approved contractor. IAC provided all supervision, safety management, labor, tools, crane, forklifts, scaffolding, and materials. IAC's wholly-owned construction subsidiary, Adelphi Construction LC, provided all project installation manpower, including project manager, shift supervisors, safety manager, foreman, welders, pipefitters, rigger, firewatch, helpers, and confined space attendants.

IAC Recirculating Dry Scrubber 2009 Patent

The present invention provides improved boiler assemblies (10) with enhanced pollution abatement properties through injection and recycling of particulate sorbent materials including sodium bicarbonate, trona, and mixtures thereof. The assemblies (10) include a boiler (12), economizer (14), air heater (15), and recirculation reactor (16). Fresh sorbent material is introduced via assembly (60) into the boiler assembly (10) at one or more injection locations, and serves to sorb NOx, SOx, and other pollutants in the flue gas. The flue gas and entrained sorbent material then pass through reactor (16) for separation of sorbent, which is then recycled for injection back into the assembly (10) upstream of reactor (16). The present invention can also be used in industrial applications where the same emissions are generated and are needed to be controlled. Examples of such applications are Cement and Lime Kilns.

Trona or Sodium Bicarbonate Injection at Wagner Reduced SO2, NOx and Mercury - IAC FGD & DeNOx Newsletter - 2012

Constellation Energy’s 340-MW Wagner Unit 3 with SCR, tubular air preheater and cold side ESP and 130-MW Unit 2 with Ljungstrom air preheater and cold side ESP participated in Solvay Chemicals testing of Trona and sodium bicarbonate injection for SO2, SO3, NOx and mercury reduction. Industrial Accessories Company (IAC) provided the rigs, injection lances and test management. The required SO2 removal rate was 30 to 50 percent. Both units use activated carbon (PAC) injection for mercury control. The units fire CAPP coal (0.83 percent sulfur) or a blend of CAPP and PRB. Youngen Kong and Stan Carpenter of Solvay Chemicals, Salil Bose and Matthew McMillian of Constellation Energy, and Pramodh Nijhawan of IAC reported at Power-Gen International 2009 that Trona was able to meet the SO2 removal targets for various fuel types at feed rates between 1.1 and 2 NSR. A higher SO2 removal rate was obtained with sodium bicarbonate. ESP performance was enhanced by Trona (with no PAC injection) and NSR 1.1, which reduces SO2 by 29 percent. Around 10 percent NOx was also removed (a bonus) with both sorbents. For Unit 2, mercury removal increased from 82 to 90 percent with Trona injection alone (NSR 1.1). For Unit 3, up to 80 percent of the mercury was removed by PAC without Trona. Over 90 percent mercury removal was realized by PAC with Trona injection (NSR=0.1). The positive effect of sodium bicarbonate on mercury removal was also demonstrated and is comparable to Trona.
