Procedair dry scrubber supplied for a 100 tpd waste to energy plant in Canada
An overview of the Air Pollution Control system at Canada's most recently retrofitted Energy-from-Waste facility is presented. The plant burns 100 tons per day of municipal solid waste in three modular incinerators, which are ducted to a common system for steam generation, heat recovery, and APC. Procedair Industries Inc. provided an All-Dry Scrubbing System for the APC, consisting of a custom-designed venturi reactor, fabric filter, and reagent handling system. The reagent is hydrated lime and the filter bags are woven fiberglass with a Teflon '8' finish. The system is designed for 35, 100 Nm3 /hr of flue gas at 138 to 184'F, and high concentrations of particulates and acid gases. Performance objectives included up to 95% removal efficiency in particulates, doixions/furans, and HCI concentration, and 80% reduction in S02' The system has been operating successfully since early 1997, and recent stack testing has shown that key performance targets are being easily met.

Hitachi Zosen Inova utilizes lime based CFB scrubber for WTE applications
The HZI SemiDry process employs the principle of the circulating fluidized bed for efficient removal of acid gases by adsorption with hydrated lime. Recirculation of reagent maximizes reagent use and provides excess reagent to capture contaminant peaks. In addition, activated carbon or coke can be injected for removal of volatile organics and metals. Cited advantages are • Low emissions with a high flexibility relative to load or flue gas contaminant changes • Minimized use of lime as widely-used low-cost reagent • High energy efficiency compared to lime-slurry based systems • High availability and low O&M cost due to simple design and operation • Proven technology with long industry record of success

HZ-inova Xerosorp captures acid gases, removes NOX and recovers heat
This device includes sodium bicarbonate injection into a reactor, recovery in a fabric filter and reinjection of captured solids. The cleaned gas then passes into a catalyst system which is efficient at removing NOx at temperatures as low as 200C. This catalyst is regenerated by including multiple modules. One module is regenerated while another module is cleaned. Cited advantages are • Very compact design • Reaches lowest emissions • Lowest Bicar consumption due to residue circulation • Damping of peaks due to high residue buffer capacity in the recirculation system • High energy efficiency due to: – Low pressure drop – Low regeneration rate of catalyst in offline mode – Tail end heat recovery.

Measurement Differences between CEMS and Sorbent Traps
This study examined some of the factors that could contribute to differences between Method 30B Hg measurements and those that result from Hg CEMS.12 The following conclusions can be drawn: • When Hg is not controlled, the contribution of HgP is generally not enough to result in a significant difference between Method 30B and electronic Hg CEMS. • ACI and Br addition for Hg control will increase HgP. When Hg is controlled to MATS control levels, HgP that makes it past the PM control device may be sufficient to cause Method 30B to overestimate the gaseous Hg emissions by a significant degree, but typically not enough to impact whether or not a RATA is passed. • At sufficiently high Br levels, there is a potential for Br to contribute to differences between Method 30B and Hg CEMS that are not explained by HgP alone. One possible mechanism is the reaction of Br on the probe filter (or other surface) with gaseous Hg. This will be exacerbated if the probe or filter surfaces are reactive (ie., not adequately coated), if the filter condition has deteriorated or if material with reactive surface has accumulated on the filter. Others have also suggested that interference with the sample conversion system may contribute to this difference. For most Br addition rates expected under practical conditions, this potential effect is not expected to be significant. • The use of brominated activated carbon will impact the difference between Hg CEMS and sorbent traps due to formation of HgP as a direct and intended result of controlling Hg. The increased HgP that makes it past the PM control device will contribute to a difference between Hg CEMS and Method 30B. On the other hand, Br released from brominated activated carbon does not appear to impact gaseous mercury measurements to any significant degree. • This paper explored some key factors that might impact the difference between Hg CEMS

Ventilex Solves Chemical Process Problem
Tessenderlo Chemie, a world leader in the field of inorganic chemicals, had to struggle to get below emission limits for hot, humid and dusty off-gases from a reactor in its Rotterdam plant. Process off-gases (35,000 N/m3/h at 120° C) were dedusted by a cyclone and cleaned with a wet scrubber. Rinse water from the scrubber, which contained high solids loading, was discharged into the river Maas, resulting in an environmental problem.
