Jon is the Manager of Next Generation at Consumers Energy. In this role he is responsible for programmatic leadership of technical, planning and policy-based initiatives related to the analysis and development of new electric generation assets within the Utility. His responsibilities include direction of technical optimization studies for generation asset addition and the evaluation of non-generation load management options. He is also responsible for extensive interface and coordination across multiple departments within the company and for coordination of Corporate policy related to Michigan's 21st Century Energy Plan. Most recently he was Director of Environmental Services, Land and Water Management for Consumers Energy Company and also Department Head of the Company's Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. He has been with the company for more than twelve years. His environmental responsibilities related to issues of water use and permitting, groundwater, wetlands, fisheries, land management, hydro relicensing, environmental assessment and environmental policy analysis. In his laboratory role, he was responsible for the management of the Corporate Chemistry Lab, a full service environmental analytical laboratory. He has worked on water-related issues with the Michigan Chamber of Commerce's Environmental Quality Committee and is a past chairman of the Committee. He has participated in a wide range of regulatory and rules workgroups including recent groundwater legislation. Jon recently served as the utility representative on the Advisory Committee to the Water Management Working Group of the Annex 2001, is currently co-chairman of Michigan's Groundwater Conservation Advisory Council. In addition to his roles within the environmental arena, he has served as chairman of a Technical Advisory Group for Gas Research Institute on gas pipeline construction, and has recently participated with Cambridge Energy Research Associates on Energy Policy related issues. He has previously worked for the Institute for Environmental Toxicology at Michigan State University. He has taught a number of courses over the years in ecology and natural sciences, environmental impact assessment and marine biology at Michigan State University, Lansing Community College and for the Philadelphia Academy of Science. He has participated on a number of community boards and commissions including as chairman of East Lansing's Commission on the Environment and as president of the Michigan State University Museum Associates Board of Directors. He holds an undergraduate degree in Fisheries and Wildlife, a Masters Degree in Zoology (Aquatic Ecology) from Michigan State University, and completed substantial additional post graduate work in Environmental Policy and Law at MSU. He is a published author on topics related to wetlands, stream ecology and fisheries. |
