Jim Downey
Jim Downey holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Pepperdine University. Prior to joining Horiba Instruments, Inc., the US subsidiary of Horiba Ltd of Kyoto Japan, in 1970, he was an engineer with Ford Motor Company. In 1975, he became a marketing manager for Horiba Instruments responsible for process and environmental instruments including analyzers for CEMS applications. After leaving Horiba in 1980, he spent 10 years as a self-employed business consultant and entrepreneur. He returned to Horiba in 1990 and has since held a variety of positions managing engineering activities for automotive emission test systems, dynamometers, process control, and environmental products including CEMS and ambient air monitoring systems. From 1995, until retirement in May 2007, he was Director of the Process and Environmental Division where he was responsible for sales, engineering, service, and quality operations. He was appointed Director of Global Operations for the Process and Environmental Division of Horiba Ltd in 2004 and was responsible for global product development and coordination of global marketing activities. After retiring in 2007, he traveled Europe with his wife of 40 years and upon their return, joined the McIlvaine team in February 2008 as a Senior Consultant.
