3C to be Held in Birmingham, UK May 23, 24, 2012

For over 15 years 3C has been the UK's only dedicated exhibition & conference for contamination control and cleanroom technology.  Here are the essentials:

3C
Hall 9 | NEC | Birmingham | UK
Wednesday, 23 May, 2012: 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, 24 May 2012: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Since 2006 the 3C show has been co-located with MEDTEC UK, the UK's major medical technology exhibition. This focused event delivers over 2,500 engineers, managers and decision-makers from the UK & Ireland's booming medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors. With their heavy reliance on manufacturing in cleanroom conditions, the medical device industry is a perfect partner to 3C.

Officially supported by Cleanroom Technology Magazine, 3C is an event for visitors looking for the latest technologies and innovations to solve current production issues, aid in the delivery of new innovative products and accelerate their overall business.

We have exhibited at every 3C show so far and we’re very pleased to see so many visitors at this year's 3C show, many of them with genuine enquiries. On the strength of this year's attendance, we have booked again for 2012 Ray Wheeler, Group President, The Guardline Group.

Connect 2 Cleanrooms had a great first year at the 3C exhibition. As a market leader in Modular Cleanrooms we made some great contacts and came away with some very beneficial enquiries, especially after the launch of our smart, green ECO-1 cleanroom control system at the exhibition. Sean Fryers, Connect 2 Cleanrooms.

Cleanroom Consumables Market to Exceed $6.6 Billion in 2012

Standard gloves, gowns and wipes shed particles and contain compounds which can emit organic gases. These contaminants can cause substantial damage to semiconductor chips and many other products. As a result, a whole industry has been built around supply of consumables for ultrapure environments.  Total sales of these special consumables will exceed $6.6 billion in 2012. This forecast is part of the continuously updated World Cleanroom Markets published by the McIlvaine Company.

                                                                  (Millions)

Industry                                 2012

Aerospace                                   79

Bioclean                                      56

Cleanroom Suppliers                215

Memory Storage                    1,231

Flat Panels                                532

Food                                          165

Hospital                                     295

Medical Devices                       198

Other Electronics                      438

Other Industries                        316

Pharmaceutical                          726

Semiconductors                      2,421

Total                                        6,672

These forecasts include the laundering of reusable clothing.  Single use clothing sales exceed sales of reusables but, when laundering revenues are added, it is clear that the bulk of the investment is in reusable clothing.

The largest market in 2012 will be in the semiconductor industry where sales will exceed $2.4 billion. This includes the photovoltaic manufacturing plants which have manufacturing processes similar in nature to semiconductors. Memory storage is also a big market.

The largest markets, with the exception of pharmaceuticals, are all concentrated in Asia. Flat panel displays, memory storage, semiconductors and other electronics manufacturing in Asia represent a 2012 market of $3.1 billion.

Food, pharmaceuticals, bioclean and hospital cleanroom consumable sales will be higher in the Americas and Europe/Africa than in Asia. There is a big potential but untapped market in hospitals. Studies have shown that hospital infections could be substantially reduced with the use of cleanroom technology.

Cleanroom hardware sales including filters, walls, instruments, ceilings and mini environments will exceed $4.1 billion in 2012. The combined hardware/consumables market will approach $11 billion.

Sterile Clothing Can Deliver Continuous Improvement

Sterile clothing has a direct impact on both contamination control and productivity of a sterile manufacturing process, so several factors beyond the basic requirement need to be considered when selecting clothing.  This is the advice of Jaime Cassar of Kimberly Clark writing in Pharmaceutical Technology Europe Volume 23, Issue 12.

Sterile clothing should be selected with continuous improvement in mind, with choices made on the basis of either better controlling or eliminating variables that impact contamination control and productivity. Any continuous improvement delivered by sterile clothing will help to improve yields, and protect quality —in this way sterile clothing selection can play an important part of a Quality by Design approach to a sterile manufacturing process. The materials, design features, manufacturing, cleaning, packaging, sterilization, specification, quality controls, documentation and certification of sterile clothing are all attributes that affect how cleanroom clothing interact with sterile manufacturing processes.
